ABOUT

The HP OmniBook X Series is a line of premium laptops and 2-in-1 PCs designed for performance, mobility, and AI-enhanced computing. These devices combine powerful processing, advanced graphics, long battery life, and modern connectivity in sleek, portable designs.

PROCESS

The project began by collaborating with Product Planning Team to shape the product definition. Combining competitive analysis, user research, retailer showcases, and regional feedback, I ensured our design direction was both strategically aligned and user-centered.

The design exploration started by identifying a distinct design language capable of elevating HP’s premium portfolio and standing out in a crowded market. This vision led to the creation of a brand-new form gesture and a ground-up keyboard design, prioritizing and elevating the notebook’s primary interaction touch points. Crucially, this approach harmonized the aesthetic and functional alignment between clamshell and convertible form factors, delivering a cohesive identity across the series.

CHALLENGES

The design language needed to be scaled across a family of four products, comprising two clamshell laptop sizes and two 2-in-1 models. Each presented its own set of design and engineering challenges. The 2-in-1 proved particularly complex due to its custom 360° synchronized hinge, which enables a seamless rotation into tablet mode.
